HISTORY
The Rossmor Building started as the Foot, Schulze and Co. Building when completed in 1916.  Appropriately enough, Foot, Schulze manufactured shoes, and after its great success as a workbook producer in Red Wing, it opened its factory on N. Robert Street in Saint Paul to create more refined city shoes.  By mid-century, however, the company had faded into memory, and the building became commonly known as the Rossmor.  It has since been synonymous with the artistic life of Saint Paul.

The Rossmor was then home to many artists, as the previous owner leased the building to artists for their studio spaces.  As time wore on and tenants pulled all-nighters, more people starting "living" in their studios, creating an almost speakeasy artist apartment building.  When the building was sold to the new developer (PAK Properties) he envisioned people living in the building, a thriving community heavily steeped in the arts - but to city code.

The Rossmor was converted to loft condominiums early in 2003 with much fanfare.  Most of the building sold out in a record time, convincing the developer to also include the 2nd floor as part of the condominium.  As with most developments, there are always a handful of homes that take forever to sell and the Rossmor was no different - The last developer unit sold in 2007(unverified, checking sources).

The Commercial space at the Rossmor is now located on the first floor and the basement (rental storage).  Commercial space was originally lease only, but was later opened up as live/work condos.  Currently there is only one vacant space in the building, on the Northwest corner of the building.

Neighborhood
The Fitzgerald Park neighborhood was named just a few years ago as part of the Fitzgerald Park Task Force.  The neighborhood currently lacks the for mentioned park, but it's part of the City of Saint Paul's long term comprehensive plan.  The future park would be right out front the Rossmor's door.  The Park would be bound by 10th & 9th Streets to the North and South and Robert and Minnesota Streets to the East and West.

The crown jewel of the neighborhood right now has got to be Key's Cafe, some honest-to-goodness home cooking.  You can't go wrong with breakfast at Key's!
